The one thing that I know people will ask is what about those that do not respond to me. I will remove them as friends of mine after they have not responded to me within 5 days of my message. That way they have the opportunity to respond, but also I can then add people who will talk to me and allow a professional relationship to grow.
Altogether, connecting with your current network is crucial to your success. That is why so many companies tell you to start out by selling to your family and friends. I have been fortunate that my network has grown so large that my main challenge now is keeping in touch with them.
