Do not read this until you have read my article "First Things First".

I am going to assume that you have read the above article and made absolutely sure that you are with the right company. If you have done this then congratulations, most network marketing distributors become fans of the first company that they join, and once this happens it can take years before they take the 'rose coloured spectacles' off.

So, you have signed up and have your kit. Do not speak to anyone yet! Your sponsor will probably have given you a brief presentation or disc. They may have given you a quick overview of some products, and are sending you straight out to look stupid in front of your warm market. Your warm market is better known as the people who love and trust you!

The reason your sponsor is doing this, is that they loose so many of their new people so quickly, that they are trying to get you some quick success before you quit. They think, the first or second time someone says no to you, that you will quit. If you are going to quit if someone say no to you, then quit now! No really do it, quit! Stop reading this and give up!

I would rather people quit quickly, as if they are going to quit better that they do it early and save me wasting my time. People quit everything, they quit sports teams, home learning classes, going to the gym, relationships and much more. Most people don't like who they are, but are to scarred to change into something unfamiliar or better, so they quit whatever takes them in the direction of change.

So you're staying with the program, good! Then become a customer of the services you are promoting, no exceptions and no excuses. You have to trial the customer experience to understand the process from their angle. There really is no point continuing any further, if you are not a customer, if you don't want the service who else will? Either, these are good services or you should not be building a business with them. So sign up and start using.

Study your products inside and out, read the small print and the contract. Study the market place and the competition, don't wear 'rose coloured spectacles'. Do your products and services stand alone as having value? You do not need to be the cheapest or the fastest, you just need to have a good deal with good customer service, backed by a company that care. But you must understand your strengths and weaknesses, so that you can present your product honestly and accurately.

Go on the product and retail training courses as many times as you need to. You need to become and expert on the services and how they are sold. Listen to the experts, ask them questions and then when you are ready, approach the market. You will get some rejection which is inevitable, but by being professionally prepared you have avoided the embarrassment of being unprofessional. It is fair to say, you learn more by doing than reading, however that does not mean that you should go out unprepared. If you worked for IBM, Microsoft, HSBC or any other major corporation, they would train you for at least two weeks before letting you loose on the public.

If you are selling services, then you should aim to get at least twenty customer contracts in the first two months. The reason you should do this, is to gain some of the experience that you cannot learn in the classroom. When you start recruiting, you will want to be the leader of your own team, thus you will want to have most of the answers, encouraging others to have confidence in your ability to help them.

So in summary, become a professional, so that people are able to trust your knowledgeable recommendations. Once you have learned all you can from the classroom, go out there as a professional, and sign-up some customers quickly. If you keep putting this part off, you will stagnate. So be honest with yourself, if you're ready then get going!
