Finding affordable truck insurance is hard work, since most truck owners happen to be young males who love big powerful engines in their driving machines. Young men are considered the most high risk drivers on the roadways, by insurance companies. It is also  even more of a challenge to keep your premium low and to not break your budget. Insurers are in the business of charging consumers whatever the market will bear, under the law. It is up to the individual  consumer to ensure that they don't pay the highest premiums. The only way to do this is  with knowledge, research and homework about what you are actually purchasing.

Avoid letting others drive your vehicle. This is because, as the vehicle owner, you are still on the hook for damages in the event of an accident or traffic mishap. Allowing another driver behind the wheel of your car can more than double your rates without an accident.

Yet another way to save money occurs when you decide to switch insurance carriers. Be sure to officially notify your  old company in writing, then call to find out when, exactly the policy ends. This will keep the old policy and new policy from overlapping, either in payments or as a dead zone between payments, leaving your vehicle uncovered for a period of time.

National statistics show that premiums go up about 40% after the first accident for which they are determined at fault. Experts recommend paying the expenses garnered by a small fender bender out of pocket, rather than turn the matter over to your insurance company. And, if your truck ends up totaled in an accident, check your state laws before settling, since most states mandate that the insurer pay all sales tax on a replacement vehicle. Otherwise, you may end up paying several hundred dollars in unexpected taxes.
