. One World One Family

One World One Family is a premise of Vedic teachings emanating from Hindu philosophy. The saying in Sanskrit “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam” indicates that in Hindu Mythology, the whole world is regarded as one family. Every individual who comes on this planet earth comes is endowed with the same feeling, action and yearns for peace, happiness, security. The individual seeks exactly same type of resources like food and shelter. So if we see individuals acting against this dictum, it is because we are looking to differences and not similarities within.

Vaudhaiv Kutumbakam directs individuals to focus more similarities rather than the differences. But the point is why do we direct our energies to focus on differences rather than similarities is due to the fact that races, though separated by the colour of skin are more akin to political and religious aspirations followed by an individual. The power if in autocrat hands lends to more divisions not only globally but within the countries boundaries. This leads to playing different trumpets by groups or society.

See what Atharva Veda says: “We are birds of the same nest. Wearing different skins, speaking different languages, believing in different religions, and belonging to different cultures – yet we share the same home, our earth. Born on the same planet, covered by the same skies, gazing at the same stars, breathing the same air, we must learn to progress happily together or miserably perish together. For humans can live individually but can survive only collectively.”

How are our actions getting translated? These are akin to following the divisive rules. The trouble in the world is not due to clash of religions but clashes one’s thoughts, one’s egos, and attempts to project one self superior to others, No religion teaches us to hurt other’s feelings, religion treats all as equals in the eye of the divine power. Name it any way, but essence is the same.

Division on the basis of caste, creed, groups or race and religion is man made. The divine power had nothing to do with it. Man in order to defend his whims resorts to actions which are results of feeling of inferiority complex or caused by a feeling of insecurity. As a result of this, we hurt/criticize others to establish personal status of superiority.

Political ideologies such as Panch Sheel as enunciated by Indian Prime Minister Jawaharlal Lal Nehru and other co-partners had the principle of human co-existence.

In today’s world political ideology should be directed towards tolerance and co-existence. Intolerance of the small and developing nations by ones that are technologically, militarily and economically well placed has caused wars and no one likes wars like World War I and II, such actions of the nations give rise to Imperialism, which too is detested.

Tendencies of power holding nations like America have violated human rights much to annoyance of UNO. Vietnam War, War in Afghanistan and against Arab Countries has been off shoot of grabbing power and oil reserves of these countries.

The disarmament programme is one such right direction that the world at large should adopt. Sincerity in pursuing real disarmament would be upheld if small nations are also promoted to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Formations like EU, African solidarity and other formations could make it feasible to bring the world under common programmes. This should lead to non aggression, respecting the territorial integrity of nations, and preserving human rights. The UNO which was evolved by the USA should be world authority to ensure these. US leadership should not see a danger to itself in growth of small nations.

Nations should not cling to be the world leaders but shall try to sustain and co-exist with growth every where. Peace should be the only deciding factor. Resort to terrorism should be shunned at all costs. Until peace is preserved, growth shall remain a distant picture. Browbeating by technologically, militarily and economically strong nations should be shown way out to bring in peace perspective. Wars as a resort to settle boundary disputes should be avoided at all costs. Such actions are bound to shatter the World Order.

Technological superiority and religious politics can and are obstructing the emergence of a world order that rests of co-existence and tolerance. We have to shun these and should again come to believe and implement the Indian Philosophy that rests on Vaudhaiv Kutumbakam. Meaning One World One Family.
